Where are you from? I am a Scandinavian Japanese born in Siberia. I did not know any of it until I got my DNA test.
I got my #DNA test results today. To say I was surprised was an understatement. I would always be uncomfortable talking about “Where are you from?” First, because I did not know what to say and it would be a bit complicated to explain the family history, and second, why does it matter?
For years it had been a mystery for me why our family did not have ancestral graves, why there were no extended cousins and so on normal families have. I’d like to make up a great story, but the fact is — if you are a Japanese or Scandinavian in Siberia/Kazakhstan, you are most likely a prisoner of war. Unless you find Siberian weather and terrain a nice setting for a prolonged vacation. I am mostly Scandinavian on mom’s side, but also Polish and German. Do you know how Germans ended up in Kazakhstan? Do you know anything about Japanese Intervention in Siberia? The second guy on the left looks a little bit like my dad. I always thought he ( my dad) was Mongolian.
