Member-only story
AI In Genetics. Stasi Archives. I guess I am going to Berlin.
My movie just got better. I did not expect an answer from the Archives. It’s an entirely improbable story, but not impossible.
I was like, cool. I will stop by the address in Berlin, check the papers, and go on my merry way to Buenos Aires. And then I was like, wait a second. I do not speak or read German. I need someone to translate it for me. I could ask someone from the US Embassy to accompany me.
My original mistake in an algorithm was that I was looking at ONE American as EIGHT different people with different nationalities.
When it pulled Early Utah Settlers, I assumed that since they were Dutch/North German, I was just looking at the Vikings’ descendants. However, when I got a Governor of Maryland, Philadelphia Cholera Victim in 1843AD, Colonial Delaware Avery Rest, Colonial American Pennsylvania in 1700AD, The Catoctin Furnace African American Cemetery, and so on, I realized I am not looking at the multiple European people, I am looking at one American, who is British/Scottish/etc, whose pedigree is precisely of what an Average American DNA would look like ( in 1920s).
